Narrator : A long time ago, in a small village in South America, there lived a farmer and his daughter. The farmer was poor and had to borrow three million pesos from a money lender. But the money lender was not kind, and when the farmer asked for one month to pay back the money, she didn't allow him any more time.↵
Money Lender : You have no money? That's okay. Your daughter will become my servant instead.↵
Father and Daughter : Oh, no!↵
Daughter : I don't want to be your servant.↵
Father : I don't want that, either! (to Money lender) No, thank you.↵
Money Lender : Do you want to go to prison? Then, let's play a game. I will put two stones in a bag. One is white, and the other is black. Your daughter will pick one.↵
Daughter : What happens if I pick the white one?↵
Money Lender : Then you will be my servant.↵
Friends : Oh, no! she's mean. How terrible!↵
Daughter : What happens if I pick the black one?↵
Money Lender : Then you will be free, and your father doesn't have to pay back my money.↵
Father : What happens if she doesn't play this game with you?↵
Money Lender : (loudly) Then you will go to prison!↵
Father , Daughter , and Friends : Oh, no! Prison!↵
(Money Lender picks up two stones. Daughter looks carefully at her.)↵
Daughter : (to herself) Oh! She has picked up two white stones. She will make me become her servant. What should I do?↵
Narrator : Stop and think. What should she do? She cannot pick a black one.↵
(Daughter picks a stone from the bag. She drops it right away.)↵
Daughter : Oh, no! I', sorry. I've dropped it. (to Money Lender) But it's okay. Show us the stone in the bag. Then we will know which one I picked.↵
